Cherry Blossom Day at the Oregon State Capitol (Salem)
Address: Oregon State Capitol, Salem
Dates: Saturday March 16, 11 am -3 pm (Cherry Blossom Day); March 16-April 6, 5-9 pm nightly (Yozakura)
Few things are as beautiful and unforgettable as walking under cherry trees covered in pink blossoms.
Even more beautiful is seeing them lit up at night by delicate Japanese lanterns and lights, while enjoying a picnic. For the last two years, the Oregon State Capitol has celebrated Yozakura, a free public viewing of the cherry blossoms illuminated at nighttime.
It’s difficult to predict exactly when the cherry blossoms at the Capitol will be in full bloom, but it’s typically mid to late March. Cherry Blossom Watch 2024 starts on March 4th on the Oregon Capitol’s Facebook page, so check there for updates.

In 2023 the Oregon State Capitol Foundation hosted a FREE Cherry Blossom Day event. It included a beautiful kimono dance and fashion show, face painting, and other family-friendly activities honoring Japanese culture. The 2024 Cherry Blossom Day will be on March 16, 2024 from 11 am to 3pm, and promises to be just as delightful.
Cherry Blossoms in Downtown Portland
Another great place to view cherry trees in bloom is downtown Portland. The Japanese American Historical Plaza at the Waterfront is one of the best places for cherry blossom viewing. Many Portlanders enjoy biking or strolling under the gorgeous pink and white canopy of flowers.
Washington Park offers another great place to enjoy the cherry blossoms, particularly in the Portland Japanese Garden. Two varieties of cherry trees bloom there in early spring, and the picturesque setting is a popular place for photographers year-round.
Hood River Blossom Festival and Craft Fair
Address: Hood River County Fairgrounds
Dates: April 20-21, 2024
Blossom Craft Show occurs annually on the third weekend in April to coincide with blooming fruit trees and flowers in the Hood River area. Over 100 vendors set up indoors and outdoors to sell everything from plants, to flowers, to foods, to crafts and more.
Daffodil Festival (N/A)
Address: unknown
2024 dates: TBD
There have been several Daffodil Festivals in Oregon previously, most notably in Junction City and Amity. However, I could not find any information about an Oregon Daffodil Festival for 2024. The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm offers daffodil bulbs and blooms for sale in addition to its tulips (see listing below).
For Pacific Northwest locals, there is a Daffodil Festival hosted in Pierce County, Washington (including the cities of Tacoma and Puyallup). It would make a great spring day trip from the Portland area!
TulipFEST at Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm
Address: 33814 S. Meridian Rd. Woodburn, OR 97071
Dates: March 22- May 5, 2024
One of the most stunning flower festivals in Oregon is the TulipFest near Woodburn, where you’ll find rainbow-hued acres of tulips stretching as far as the eye can see. On a clear morning, you can enjoy a hot air balloon ride over the tulips with Mount Hood in the background.
@dinkumtribe I’ve visited the TulipFest multiple times with an infant, and with young children. These are my best suggestions for a fun and memorable day with neurodivergent kids. It’s important to know ahead of time that you aren’t allowed to pick your own tulips (to protect the bulbs for future years). Also, you’re not supposed to run through the rows, or even walk through the rows. Burning off the excess energy before going to the fields was really helpful for my boys so that they could comply with the rules. We had a fantastic visit! #tulipfest2024 #tiptoethroughthetulips #oregontulipfestival #oregontulips #oregontulips #woodenshoetulipfestival #neurodivergentkids #parenthack #autismmom @Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm @DinkumTribe ADHD family travel @DinkumTribe ADHD family travel @DinkumTribe ADHD family travel ♬ original sound – DinkumTribe ADHD family travel
Depending on weather, tulip season runs from the end of March into early May. You’ll want to check the Wooden Show Tulip Farm’s Facebook page for daily field reports and bloom updates.
The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm also offers a range of activities and events that allow visitors to experience the beautiful tulips and more. From wine tours, to tractor rides through the fields, to hot air balloons, there’s something for everyone. Antique tractor displays, food trucks, a children’s play area, live music and carnival-type activities round out the fun for all ages.
When we visited Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm recently, our kids especially enjoyed the duck races and the cow wagons. The boys pulled each other through the tulip fields for close to an hour! We all had fun with the various photo ops in the field and near the gift shop.
The Wooden Shoe gift shop is well worth visiting for authentic Dutch wooden shoes and tulip decor, while the Wine Bar next store offers wine tasting and small bites to refresh you after your stroll through the tulips.

You can also take home a bouquet, or sign up for the mailing list to order tulip bulbs in the fall to plant in your home garden for blooms next spring.
Schreiner’s Iris Gardens
Address: 3625 Quinaby Road NE Salem, OR
2024 dates: May 10-31
Nestled in the heart of Oregon’s Willamette Valley is Schreiner’s Iris Gardens, a family-run farm that hosts their bloom season event in May.
At the farm, you can enjoy the beautiful display garden, walk through fields of irises, and purchase irises to take home as well. Food truck vendors offer light meals, coffee or desserts to enjoy amongst the gorgeous blooms and tranquil setting. We loved the soft serve ice cream on the hot May afternoon when we visited!
With hundreds of varieties of iris, in colors ranging from deep purples and blues to bright pinks and yellows, the display garden is a favorite with local artists and photographers. The irises are interspersed with many other complementary flowers and shrubs, which helps gardeners visualize how the irises will fit into their home garden.
My teen daughters loved finding quiet corners to sit in and take in the beauty of the display gardens, while the boys marveled at the sheer variety of plant shapes and colors.
Schreiner’s Iris Gardens also offers visitors a glimpse into the world of iris hybridization. The garden is home to one of the largest iris breeding programs in the country, allowing visitors to witness firsthand the artistry and scientific dedication behind creating new and extraordinary iris cultivars.
@dinkumtribe Schreiner’s Bloom Season event is a visual feast with hundreds of unique varieties of iris in bloom. I never knew there were so many colors and variations! The display garden is expertly laid out and designed to show off the gorgeous irises alongside other perennials like lupine, allium, columbine and more. #flowerfields #iris ♬ Beautiful Morning – Mayrain

Adelman Peony Gardens
Address: 5690 Brooklake Rd. NE, Salem, OR 97305
Dates: April 27th to June 15th 2024
The Adelman Peony Gardens is a hidden gem tucked away in Brooks, just north of Salem. With 30 acres of land dedicated to peony cultivation, the Adelman family has curated a collection of over 500 varieties of peonies, including new varieties each year.
@dinkumtribe Aside from the glory of millions of flowers in bloom, Adelman’s Peony Garden is a great place to shop for new plants for your garden. There’s a flower display that shows which ones are currently blooming, as well as a catslog to order from. My boys enjoyed running between the sections of different peony varieties, including some that had blooms as large as a person’s head! My teen girls had a great time walking through the display garden and soaking in the serenity. #flowerfields #peonies ♬ Peaceful and joyful pop with ukulele and whistle(1322918) – 314P
During the Open House (May 1-June 15), visitors can stroll through 30 acres of flower fields, explore the 2 acres of display gardens, or view the indoor peony bloom displays. We were all delighted with the huge blooms and vibrant colors in the peony fields – some blossoms were as large as our heads!
The display gardens are beautifully designed with a variety of other flowers to complement the peonies. One of my sons loves lupine, so he was delighted to see several unique colors of tall lupine in bloom alongside the shorter peonies. The display garden is a great way to visualize how a peony plant will look in your home garden amongst other plants.
The gift shop has example blossoms of every variety of peony that Adelman’s offers in their catalog. I loved the board that showed exactly which varieties were currently in bloom, set up next to the cut flower bouquets.
Whether you prefer the classic elegance of the white peonies or the dramatic allure of the crimson ones, Adelman Peony Gardens is the best place to find fresh cut flowers or potted peonies to take home.
Portland Rose Festival
Address: multiple locations in Portland
Dates: May-June 2024
Portland’s Rose Festival is a collection of special events and celebrations that runs through May and June each year, celebrating Portland as the City of Roses. The festival features a range of activities and events that cater to all interests and ages. From rose shows and parades to live music performances and delicious food vendors, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
One of the must-see places for flower lovers during the Portland Rose Festival is the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park. Dozens of varieties of rose bushes in every possible color and fragrance imaginable fill this award-winning rose garden. It’s one of our favorite places to enjoy a walk during a lunch date.
Another fantastic place to visit during Rose Festival season is the Lan Su Chinese Garden. We visited on Memorial Day weekend and they had a beautiful peony bloom show on display throughout the garden buildings.
The traditional architectural features interspersed with the water features and natural beauty create an oasis of quiet in the busy downtown area.
Several parades occur as part of Portland’s Rose Festival, but the biggest one is the Grand Floral Parade (June 8, 2024). Dozens of whimsical floats, decorated with natural materials like flowers, seeds, and leaves, make this one of the most unique parade experiences in the world.
