Seaside is one of those places that just works for families. It’s walkable, relaxed, and easy to settle into. But where you stay makes a difference to the kind of experience you’ll enjoy.
We’ve stayed in a vacation rental and two riverfront hotels, and each one shaped the trip differently. Here’s how to choose the right fit for your family.

Vacation rentals in Seaside: when you need space and quiet

We stayed in a vacation rental in a quiet neighborhood near the Seaside Aquarium. It ended up being one of our calmest coast stays.
The space made everything easier. Multiple bedrooms, a large family room, a game room, and a full kitchen meant no one felt on top of each other.

Why vacation rentals work so well for families:
- Everyone gets their own space
- You can cook familiar meals
- Evenings stay predictable and calm
There were a few trade-offs. Parking was tricky, and older buildings aren’t always quiet. We had to clean up after ourselves and be careful not to bring sandy things inside.
Still, for longer stays, this option is hard to beat. It’s especially helpful for families with sensory needs or kids who decompress best at “home.”

River Inn: our favorite family hotel in Seaside

We stayed here in spring in a two-room adjoining suite with a kitchenette. From the start, it felt welcoming: the smell of fresh-baked cookies in the lobby was hard to resist!

The game room pulled the kids in immediately. Foosball, checkers, shuffleboard, and darts provide an easy way to connect with each other away from the hotel room.
What really stood out were the river views. Waking up to calm water and the sound of waterbirds calling from our upstairs balcony felt grounding.

A few things to know:
- The indoor pool is fun, but loud
- Evening s’mores by the fire pits were a highlight
- The river walk is easy and peaceful
- The playground right outside the breakfast area is a godsend for wiggly kids
- The full fridge in the kitchenette was a budget saver for storing full lunches and dinners
This hotel worked best for us overall. It’s a great choice for families with kids or teens who still want shared space.
@dinkumtribe If you’re looking for the perfect family-friendly hotel in Seaside Oregon, you’ve come to the right place. We recently spent a long weekend at the River Inn at Seaside with our six children, and we highly recommend it. With its great location, kid-friendly amenities and helpful staff, the River Inn at Seaside is ideal for family getaways. The River Inn at Seaside is a few minutes’ walk from the beach, right on the Necanicum River. #hosted #traveltok #traveloregon #oregoncoast #oregonbeaches #familytravel #neurodivergentfamily #hotelreview @DinkumTribe ADHD family travel @DinkumTribe ADHD family travel @DinkumTribe ADHD family travel ♬ Walking Around – Instrumental Version – Eldar Kedem
The Kathryn Riverfront Inn: best for location and short stays
The Kathryn feels more grown-up and streamlined. Think balcony views, in-room jacuzzi tubs and gas fireplaces. Brian and I have stayed here several times on our own for anniversary getaways, and also once or twice with the kids.

The parking is easy and plentiful, which immediately lowers stress. The location right on Broadway (the main drag) and the river walk is hard to beat. You’re just steps away from Seaside’s best restaurants and shops.

A few things to keep in mind:
- No adjoining suites
- Rooms are better for sleeping than hanging out
- Best for shorter stays
- Indoor pool
- Fresh cookies in the afternoon, included continental breakfast
This spot works well for families with older teens. It’s also a good fit if you plan to be out exploring all day and you mostly need a comfy place to sleep at night.
